A rising star in the red meat industry with ambitions rooted in profitable beef production has been awarded the 2025 Te Mania Angus Scholarship at the prestigious Marcus Oldham College.
Megan Russell, a Sacred Heart College graduate from Geelong, brings a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to the future of commercial Angus cattle and the broader agricultural sector. Megan’s resume includes roles ranging from farm fencing to animal husbandry with Barwon Lamb and a contractor stint at Isis Downs in Queensland. She now works with Millwood Farming Services, focusing on Angus breeding programs, calving, and weaning—while also sharpening her practical skills in welding and fencing.
Her current role immerses her in the world of Angus cattle, particularly in natural and AI joining programs, an experience she describes as pivotal in shaping her career ambitions.
“Receiving the Te Mania Angus Scholarship is a transformative opportunity that aligns perfectly with my goal of taking on leadership roles in the red meat industry,” Megan says.
Megan’s experience with high-performance Angus stud operations and her passion for sustainable farming systems demonstrate a clear focus on profitable beef production. Her exposure to Angus gene pools at Millwood Pastoral Company has honed her skills in resource management and market-responsive breeding strategies.
“My long-term vision is to manage my own mixed farming enterprise, focusing on the balance between regenerative landscapes and sustainable protein supply,” Megan shares.
