GOWAN BRAE - JOHN AND ANNE McFARLANE
VICTORIA, WESTERN - HAMILTON
John and Anne McFarlane’s heifers were described as "An outstanding line of female future breeders which reflect the high performance genetics used within the herd" by the judge of the 2009 Hamilton Beef Expo Commercial Heifer Replacement competition, when they won the prestigious award for the second time.
The judge went on to say "The heifers were very large framed with excellent top lines. Conformation was excellent with deep bodies and correct structure. Temperament was very good, with quietness essential for the program the owners operate under. "
Gowan Brae has topped the Hamilton Weaner sale in recent years, and the steers are sought after by the feedlots. Females are generally marketed through the Team female sale.
The McFarlanes run 550 late autumn and spring calving cows on Gowan Brae and have set out to breed superior, functional females with an emphasis on fertility.
Team membership since 2002, has given the McFarlanes access to trend leaders, information and a brand they are happy to be associated with.
