NORTHERN SPRING BULL SALE REPORT

Sale average $4,520 for 126 bulls
Top price $16,000

At the Te Mania Angus Northern Spring Bull sale, held on Thursday, September 9th, 2010 at Walgett, bulls sold to a high of $16,000.
The 126 bulls sold in the ring averaged $4520 and 13 bulls sold immediately after the sale making a total gross of $598,750.

Bulls were sold throughout NSW and Qld, from Hay to as far north as Winton.

Buyers were shopping according to EBV figures.  In particular they were after longfed index bulls, which correlated with the highest prices.

The bulls presented very well, despite spending seven days in the Walgett sale yards, due to threatening rain and impassable roads.

The top price bull was Lot 34, Te Mania Decade D222, who was in the top one per cent of the breed for Long Fed index, ($143) and for 600-day growth.  Sired by our new star Berkley B1, he was also the heaviest bull in the sale 865 kilograms and went to Minnamurra Pastoral Company, NSW.

The second highest bull sold went to Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School, which paid $14,000 for Lot 82, Te Mania Division D943.  Another high-indexing Long Fed bull at $134, he has an exceptional growth spread from a birthweight of  1.6 to final weight of 111.

And, the third highest price bull, was Lot 111, Te Mania Discreet D894 who sold for $12,000 to Purchased Angus Stud, Burenda Holdings, Dalby by principals Alec and Mary Peden.  D894 had outstanding carcase qualities including $140 for Long Fed index,       2.8, top 1% for marbling, an excellent spread of 1.6 for birth to final weight of 104 and an ideal Mature Cow Weight of 78.  Burenda purchased a second sire D702 for $9,000.

Volume buyers were Michael O'Brien, 2009 NSW Farmer of the Year, who put together a line of 14 bulls to a top of $8500 and Minnamurra Pastoral Company, which purchased 21 bulls, and return client Brian Duddy of Goondiwindi who purchased 9 bulls.
